After the last 20 months, we all need something to celebrate, and the recent AV Awards 2021, organised by UK based AV Magazine, at the start of the November were just that. As the saying goes, oh what a night! From the fantastic backdrop of Evolution London, the entertainment from host comedian Russel Kane and the renowned Judge Jules led an evening of celebration, showcasing some of the major achievements in the audio visual industry over the last year. From world leading entertainment, broadcast and installation projects across the globe, to individual products, companies and people, there was something for everyone.
Last year attendees found themselves sat in the comfort of their own homes for the awards, something which, though a bit of a novelty at first, fast wore off. It was fantastic therefore to have the awards back in person, allowing everyone to soak up the atmosphere and celebrate the successes of colleagues, peers, suppliers and maybe even competitors. A fantastic networking opportunity, everyone who was there commented on the buzz and a real positivity in the air. And after too long conducting business meetings in a hybrid state of formal tops and PJs for some it was good to see the dinner jackets and cocktail dresses being dusted off and brought into action again!
There were over 1400 attendees, and significantly 37% of those were from outside the UK, showing how the AV Awards are increasingly being seen and recognised internationally. The list of nominees and winners is testimony to this, with projects, people and businesses from the UK, Europe, the USA, the United Arab Emirates and Asia all being recognised.
The importance of this recognition for the motivation of employees, employers and the industry as a whole, is especially poignant during these times. And for hard working individuals after what for everyone has been a gruelling and uncertain eighteen months, the positive boost that an award nomination or win brings to a business and team is immeasurable.
All of the nominees and winners at this year’s awards are to be congratulated and you see the full list here. We are happy to see many of the brands and businesses we work with represented and it is good to see a number of new manufacturers in the mix alongside many more established names.
Working as we do with young people just starting out in their careers and looking to get into the industry, we would like to make one special mention to recognise Anna Shahin, the recipient of this year’s Rising Star Award. Anna joined UK Distributor Audiologic in 2018 as an Application Support Engineer. It is fantastic to see emerging stars being acknowledged and promoted in this way at a time when the AV industry is competing with other thriving tech sectors to attract fresh young talent.
This year’s AV Awards show that there is some exceptional talent and innovation being demonstrated all around the globe. At Interfacio, we regularly work across all of these international markets, so it’s great to see such a healthy representation at these Awards from around the world.
As we know well, recruiting internationally for specialist manufacturers or service providers requires a deep understanding of each of these markets as well as a sensitivity to the differences in communication and business cultures between companies as well as geographic territories. As the demand for cutting edge AV solutions across corporate, broadcast and live events strengthens again we expect the demand and competition for business and technical talent to only continue to intensify. One thing is for sure, as an employer fighting to attract and retain top talent, few things are more effective than a recent prestigious industry award!
